Police investigate fatal shooting at east-central Fresno apartment complex

Police are investigating a fatal shooting at an east-central Fresno apartment complex.

The incident was reported at 9:16 a.m. at large complex named The Landing at Fancher Creek at Peach and Clay avenues, south of Olive Avenue.

Police Lt. Joe Gomez said a caller told police a friend had just shot himself. In a second call a few moments later, the caller said he was afraid, then the caller apparently left the scene. Officers at the scene were unable to find that person.

The victim, a man who appeared to be in his 30s, sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and died at Community Regional Medical Center.
