A Fresno man was arrested Wednesday evening on charges of possessing a sawed-off rifle and for probation violations, police reported.

Sgt. Rittchie O’Dell said officers from the Violent Crime Impact Team were in the area of Weldon Avenue and Mayfair Drive about 6 p.m. when they saw three suspicious subjects on bicycles. As the officers approached, a man identified as Matthew Aldredge, 33, tossed away a .22 caliber sawed-off rifle. Officers recovered the weapon and booked Aldredge into Fresno County Jail. The other subjects were released, O’Dell said, because they were unaware of the weapon.
