Man arrested in Kearney Market slaying

Fresno police reported Tuesday that Eric Gallardo, 23, of Fresno is in custody in connection with a fatal shooting Saturday at the Kearney Market in southwest Fresno.

The homicide took place about 5:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Kearney Boulevard, where Anthony Jones was shot after what police say began as a verbal disturbance and then escalated when Jones was hit with a fist.

The suspect reportedly pulled a gun and fired shots at Jones, who died at Community Regional Medical Center.

Gallardo was located in Stockton, where he was arrested and returned to Fresno County Jail, where he was booked on murder charges.
