Police: Hanford man arrested after stabbing woman twice during attempted robbery

A Hanford man was arrested Thursday after stabbing a woman twice during an attempted robbery at a bus stop, police said.

The suspect, Leonard Caballero, 22, stabbed Ruby Sauceda, 24, twice in the face and neck after he tried to take food and money from her at a bus stop near a liquor store on the 700 block of East Lacey Boulevard around 9:30 p.m., officer Larry Leeds said. Caballero fled west toward 10th Avenue.

Officers found and arrested Caballero on the 500 block of East 11th Street with the help of the victim and her father, Leeds said. It was later determined the victim knew Caballero from a prior program the two attended together.

Sauceda was transported to Adventist Medical Center Hanford for treatment of her injuries, Leeds said. Caballero was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, attempted robbery and mayhem.
