Police: Felon with shotgun booked in southeast Fresno

A woman who was blocking the sidewalk with her car in southeast Fresno landed her male companion in jail Thursday night after detectives discovered the man was holding a shotgun, Fresno police reported.

A police spokesman said officers from the MAGEC gang unit were patrolling near Adler and Montecito avenues in southeast Fresno about 8:30 p.m. when they spotted the car. When the detectives stopped to speak the woman, they noticed that Demetryus Goodwin, 30, with the shotgun. He followed orders to drop the 20 gauge weapon, which he said he was carrying for protection, and was booked on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
