Man arrested during bank robbery attempt in central Fresno
A man was arrested Jan. 15 during an attempted bank robbery in central Fresno, Fresno police said.
Javier Velez, 52, was arrested when he allegedly tried to walk out of the front of the Citibank at Ashlan and Blackstone avenues after handing a teller a note demanding money.
Bank employees called police and provided a description of the robber. Officers arrived within minutes and arrested Velez, who is currently on probation out of Santa Cruz for petty theft with prior offenses.
Velez was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery and probation violation.
