16-year-old murder suspect arrested, gun recovered after shooting
A 16-year-old boy was arrested Jan. 15 for his alleged connection to a slaying that occurred earlier that afternoon, Fresno police said Saturday.
Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, police officers responded to calls about multiple gunshots near Mariposa Street and Madison Avenue in central Fresno.
Officers found a 59-year-old man behind the wheel of a black Mercedes that had crashed into two other cars. Officers saw he had gunshot wounds, and he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
The victim’s name is being withheld until family members are notified.
Around three hours after the shooting, officers patrolling the neighborhood saw the 16-year-old suspect, who matched witness descriptions of the shooter given to police.
Fresno police arrested him and recovered a pistol they believe was used to shoot the victim.
The murder suspect’s name is not being released due to his age. The investigation is ongoing.
This is Fresno’s fifth murder of 2016. By this time last year, there were three murders in the city.
