Clovis police arrest suspect in iPad theft

Clovis police arrested a man Thursday morning suspected of stealing an iPad from an idling truck.

The victim called police to report his tablet was stolen around 7 a.m. as he left his unlocked white Dodge truck idling in his driveway near Armstrong and Bullard avenues, spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said.

Units from Clovis police, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol followed a white Ford Explorer near Villa and Inyo avenues until it stopped near Belmont and Armstrong avenues, Stoll-Lee said.

The suspect was arrested after he left the vehicle and tried to flee from officers through a nearby field, Stoll-Lee said.

Officers found a bag of meth on the seat of his car and found the iPad hidden under a bush, Stoll-Lee said.

Steven Black, 44, was booked into Fresno County Jail for multiple charges including suspected possession of stolen property from three previous cases, possessing methamphetamine and violating probation.
