A burglar described by police as prolific was arrested in northeast Fresno on Thursday with the help of an eyewitness, police said.

A pedestrian passing through the 400 block of East Bullard Avenue near Fresno Stree, heard a burglar alarm at one of the businesses around 7:17 a.m., Sgt. Michael Landon said. The eyewitness called police after seeing someone inside.

Officers responded and tracked down the fleeing suspect with the help of the eyewitness, Landon said. Michael Buchanan, 35, was arrested after police found evidence indicating he broke into the locked business to commit theft.

Buchanan was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of burglary, Landon said.

This is the fourth arrest for Buchanan in the past month on suspicion of burglaries involving different businesses, Landon said. He was recently arrested on Dec. 22 for his alleged involvement in the burglary at the Macy’s Furniture Store near Cedar and Shaw avenues and had been released from custody.
