Fresno IRS employee pleads guilty to preparing false tax returns

An employee of the IRS in Fresno pleaded guilty Jan. 11 in Fresno’s federal court to helping prepare a false tax return, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Yolanda Castro, 48, prepared false tax returns on behalf of herself, her family members and others from 2007 to 2013.

In the fraudulent tax forms, Castro claimed tax credits for expenses she did not have and provided the IRS fake receipts to support her claims.

Castro is scheduled to face sentencing April 4 by Judge Dale A. Drozd and faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
