A southwest Fresno gang member was shot multiple times early Wednesday in southwest Fresno, police reported.

The shooting took place at East Whites Bridge Avenue and South Trinity Street.

Lt. Joe Gomez said the victim, 40, was in his car in a small strip mall about 6 a.m. As he spoke on his phone, someone in a red pickup truck opened fire. Investigators still aren’t sure what the motive was.

The victim was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center and was undergoing surgery. He suffered several gunshot wounds to the upper body, Gomez said.
