U.S. citizen to be extradited to Mexico for trial in 2007 killing

An American citizen arrested in Kern County will be extradited to stand trial for allegedly murdering another man in Michoacán, Mexico, in 2007, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

According to witness statements, Jesús Flores Buenrostro, 36, of California, was headed to the town square in Sahuayo de Morelos with a group of friends when a fight broke out with another group. Buenrostro then allegedly fired two shots at the group, striking one victim who later died from his injuries. Buenrostro then fled back to the U.S.

He was later arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Kern County in July 2015. On Dec. 15, the federal court in Fresno certified his extradition to Mexico.
