An alleyway shooting in east-central Fresno Sunday afternoon wounded an innocent bystander and left bullet holes in cars and apartments, police said.

Lt. Mindy Casto said the victim, a man in his 40s, had non-life threatening injuries.

Police received multiple calls about 3:30 p.m. reporting 10 shots fired and a car being struck by bullets near the intersection of Peach and Olive avenues.

Officers responding to those calls heard another call about a victim with a gunshot wound. He was visiting at an apartment complex at 5181 E. Olive Ave. that was next to the alleyway where the gunfire took place.

The victim called 911 and walked toward his apartment near the intersection, where he was met by police. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

Casto said the motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately clear. Investigators found evidence that more than 10 rounds were fired. Police were canvassing the neighborhood for eyewitnesses.
