Two men arrested after police find gun during traffic stop
Two men were arrested during a traffic stop in southwest Fresno after police found a gun under the passenger seat on Friday night, the Fresno Police Department said.
Officers stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic infraction just before 8 p.m. near Belmont Avenue and Parkway Drive.
The driver, Pao Xiong, had a license that was suspended for DUI offenses, police said.
Officers observed open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, police said. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded handgun under the front passenger’s seat.
The passenger, Nou Xiong, 28, gave conflicting stories about whose gun it was and how it could have ended up under his seat, police said. When asked if his fingerprints would be found on the weapon, Xiong seemed unsure.
Nou Xiong was arrested for several firearms-related charges and booked into Fresno County Jail, police said.
Pao Xiong was arrested for driving with a suspended license and for driving under the influence in violation of his probation terms. He was cited and released.
