JCPenney cashier allegedly embezzles nearly $4,000, using employee discount
A cashier at a JCPenney in Visalia who allegedly gave nearly $4,000 in illegal employee discounts to friends was arrested Tuesday. Many of those items were intended as Christmas gifts, the Visalia Police Department said.
Miguel Ferreira, 26, had been working as a cashier for the JCPenney during the holiday season and was using his discount on merchandise purchased by people that he knew for the past few weeks.
In early December, Visalia Police were notified by the store of a potential embezzlement, and upon investigation officers were able to recover nearly $4,000 in merchandise.
Ferreira was booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility for felony embezzlement.
