A man who police believe is responsible for hundreds of vehicle burglaries across Fresno was arrested Wednesday after a monthlong investigation, the Fresno Police Department said.

Bennie Montes, 24, is suspected of causing thousands of dollars in damage with the burglaries, police said.

He was caught at Tulare and Chestnut avenues riding a bicycle and was found in possession of property from a number of possible victims, police said. The property included bank cards, registration information, vehicle pink slips and jewelry.

Montes is a Bulldog gang member on probation for vehicle burglary and has been arrested eight times in the last two years for breaking into cars, police said. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail and is currently being held on an outstanding warrant for violating his probation.
