False report of robbery at EECU branch briefly shuts Fresno streets
Police briefly blocked Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street in downtown Fresno Tuesday morning after they received a tip that a man was preparing to commit a robbery inside an Educational Employees Credit Union branch.
Officers quickly determined the report was false, police Lt. Joe Gomez said. It appears a person in line misunderstood what he heard another person say and alerted police.
The incident unfolded about 9:30 a.m. Motorcycle officers blocked pedestrians and traffic on the streets as officers in uniforms and civilian clothes investigated. Traffic was allowed to proceed a short time later.
