Central Fresno drive-by shooting puts man in hospital

A drive-by shooting in central Fresno put one man in a hospital Saturday night, the Fresno Police Department said.

Police responded to the call near Valeria Street and McKenzie Avenue, which is just north of downtown Fresno, around 9:30 p.m.

They found a Hispanic man in his late 20s who had been shot while outside with friends, police said. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center and was in stable condition.

Detectives are still investigating. The motive was unknown, and authorities didn’t know if the victim has any gang affiliation. But the suspect specifically targeted the victim and his group of friends, police said.
