State grant targets repeat DUI offenders

A state grant will allow two Fresno County Probation officers to monitor repeat offenders convicted of driving under the influence or felony driving under the influence charges.

Chief probation officer Rick Chavez said the $364,000 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety will be used by the officers to make unannounced home searches, conduct random drug and alcohol testing and monitor compliance with court-ordered education programs.

“These funds will allow probation to continue the expanded DUI program, which will keep our streets safer by supervising offenders convicted of driving under the influence or drugs or alcohol,” Chavez said.
