A convicted sex offender was arrested Friday for a probation violation after he was found at a home across the street from a Fresno elementary school.
Police served a search warrant at 5239 E. Clay Ave. to look for firearms stolen from a home in Southern California. The residence is directly across Clay Avenue from Turner Elementary School in southeast Fresno.
While conducting the firearms search, officers encountered Johnny Barela, 22, who was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor. Under terms of his probation, Barela is not to be within 2,000 feet of a school.
He was taken into custody without incident. Police said the arrest is a reminder for parents to check the Megan’s Law website to learn where convicted sex offenders might be living.
