Fresno police seized an assault weapon and a revolver from a person prohibited from owning firearms Wednesday night during a traffic stop west of Highway 99.

Sgt. Paul Cervantes of the MAGEC anti-gang unit said Daniel Hernandez, 24, was driving with a suspended license near Blythe and Ashlan avenues. Officers searched his car and found a box of ammunition. Because he has been convicted of domestic violence, he is not allowed to own firearms or ammunition.

Officers who searched his home found a Mac-11 assault weapon with two high-capacity magazines and a Ruger .357 magnum revolver. Detectives are tracing the weapons to determine if they are stolen.

Hernandez was booked into Fresno County Jail.
