Felon arrested with assault rifle in southeast Fresno

Fresno police seized an AR-15 rifle with a high-capacity magazine and arrested a 35-year-old man on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm early Wednesday in southwest Fresno.

Sgt. John Viveros Jr. said officers were on patrol near Phillip and Huntington avenues about 1 a.m. when they saw two men run from an idling vehicle. Officers spotted the rifle in the back of the car and search for the two men was launched. Russel Lee Randolph, 35, was taken into custody and booked into Fresno County Jail on weapons charges.
