A Clovis man was sentenced Thursday to five years in federal prison for aiming a laser pointer at a Fresno police helicopter in 2012.

It marked the second time that Sergio Patrick Rodriguez, 27, was sentenced for the crime.

Rodriguez was convicted by a federal jury after a three-day trial in Fresno in December 2013.

At the original sentencing, Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill described Rodriguez as a “walking crime spree” and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.

Rodriguez’s sentence was later vacated on appeal, and at re-sentencing, he faced a maximum five-year sentence.
