Man, woman battle on Chinatown rooftop
A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday on domestic violence and felony assault charges after they engaged in a rooftop fight in Fresno’s Chinatown, police reported.
Police were called to the 1000 block of E Street about 11:30 a.m., where Lt. Joe Gomez said officers saw Stephanie Randolph, 38, and Andrew Lopez, 34, battling on the roof of the vacant Chinese-American Association building. Randolph repeatedly struck Lopez with a metal pipe. Officers ordered Randolph to desist and allowed Lopez to get to the ground.
Officers then used a fire ladder to get onto the roof and arrest Randolph, who said Lopez had stabbed her with a sharp object and displayed a cut on her wrist. Lopez had bruises and cuts, which appeared to have come from being struck with the pipe, Gomez said.
Both parties said that they lived on the roof and the fight erupted over an issue in their relationship.
Randolph and Lopez were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Several other people who ran out of an adjacent vacant building when police arrived were told to collect their belongings and leave the area, Gomez said.
