Hanford man jailed for stabbing man, cutting woman during altercation
A man is in jail after stabbing another man and cutting a woman’s face in Hanford on Friday night, the Hanford Police Department said.
Police responded to the 300 block of South Street just before 11 p.m. regarding a possible stabbing.
Witnesses pointed police toward a man walking away from the area.
Jose Arana, 25, was detained as the suspect in the altercation without incident, police said.
Darla Castro, 27, and her brother Leopoldo Castro, 31, had been in an argument with Arana. At some point, Arana ran to his home to get a knife and then returned to physically engage the Castros, police said.
Police say Arana stabbed Leopoldo in the upper chest area three times and Darla got a superficial laceration to her face.
The motive is unclear, but it may possibly be gang related, police said.
Leopoldo was flown to Kaweah Delta Hospital for his injuries.
Arana was booked into the Kings County Jail for attempted murder, assault with deadly weapon and participation in a criminal street gang.
