Suspect arrested in Porterville double murder

A man has been arrested in connection with a double murder near Porterville, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

Homicide detectives are interviewing Kenneth Charles Smith, 57, identified as a person of interest in the case.

He was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. in Kern County in the Lake Isabella area.

About 8:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies found an 84-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman dead in a home in the 14400 block of Road 284 east of Porterville, the sheriff’s department said.

Both bodies had obvious injuries, the sheriff’s department said.
