Mother arrested after child is nearly run over in Hanford street
A mother was arrested Monday night after police say she left her two children unsupervised, leading to her 2-year-old daughter nearly being struck by a car on a Hanford road.
Lt. George Hernandez said officers responded to the intersection of West Fargo Avenue and Aspen Street at 10:13 p.m. to investigate a report of a lost child. The caller had seen saw a child in the middle of Fargo Avenue while driving in the area and waited with the child until police arrived.
While looking for the girl’s parents, Hernandez said, police found a 10-month-old boy on a porch. Both children were dirty and barefoot. The girl wore a shirt and diaper, and the boy wore only a diaper, Hernandez said.
Police located the mother, 18-year-old Monique Brasel, at a nearby home. She told police she was watching a movie while the children were in the garage unsupervised, Hernandez said. She did not know how they got out of the house.
Brasel was arrested on two counts of felony endangerment and held on $100,000 bail.
