Fresno State junior arrested in death of UCLA student

A Fresno State student is among two men suspected of killing UCLA student Andrea DelVesco, Los Angeles Police Department said Monday.

LAPD detectives arrested Alberto Hinojosa Medina, 22, at his home in Fresno on Saturday. He was booked into Van Nuys Jail in Los Angeles on Sunday with no bail, jail records show. Eric Marquez, 22, was arrested Sunday night near his apartment in Los Angeles and booked into jail Monday on a $1 million hold.

DelVesco’s body was found by firefighters who extinguished a blaze at her Los Angeles apartment about 7:20 a.m. Sept. 21.

Arson investigators suspected DelVesco died under suspicious circumstances. Homicide investigators looked at forensic evidence and witness statements that linked Medina and Marquez to DelVesco’s death.

Fresno State confirmed Monday evening that Medina is a junior at the university with a double major in social work and pre-psychology. He enrolled in fall 2011 from McFarland High School. UCLA said Marquez is a fifth-year undergraduate student at the Westwood campus, majoring in biology.

DelVesco, 21, was a fourth-year psychology major from Austin, Texas.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call LAPD detectives Frank Carrillo or James King at 213-486-6890 or 877-527-3247 during non-business hours.
