Missing southeast Fresno toddler found safe

Police located a 2-year-old boy who was missing part of Friday morning in southeast Fresno.

Lt. Joe Gomez said the boy’s mother left the child with her parents around 11 p.m. Thursday. When she returned around 5:30 a.m., the boy was not in his bedroom and the window was open.

Police believe the boy’s father took the child. Gomez said the boy’s mother and father are not married, and she has not seen the father in about a month.

Gomez said officers found the child with his father Friday morning.

Police initially reported that the father was arrested for kidnapping and burglary, but Lt. Jeff Motoyasu said investigators decided against an arrest.

The case was deemed a custody issue. The father was taking good care of his son, who was unharmed, Motoyasu said.
