Police: Money dispute leads to liquor-smashing spree at Fresno store

A man was arrested for smashing $1,000 worth of liquor bottles at his family’s central Fresno store Saturday night after he demanded more cash than the $40 they offered him, police said.

Fresno police said Hymyar Alkobadi, 30, stopped at his family’s store at Fruit and Shields avenues and asked for food and money. The family fed him, but when they gave him just $40, he started smashing liquor bottles and then hit his older brother when the brother tried to stop Alkobadi, police said.

Alkobadi, affiliated with the Bulldog gang, was out of jail on bond for possession of a gun and carrying methamphetamine, according to police.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism, battery and committing a new crime while out on bond.
