Fresno man beaten, robbed while working in yard

A man working in a yard in central Fresno was pistol whipped and robbed of his wallet Tuesday morning, police reported.

The crime took place shortly after 9 a.m. near Williams Elementary School at North Carruth Avenue and West Saginaw Way. Sgt. Clayton Smith said the victim was approached by two men who appeared to be in their late teens. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and struck the victim in the face before the pair took his wallet. Witnesses said the two jumped into a car and fled.

The man was treated by paramedics but did not want to go to the hospital because he had to take care of tools that remained in the yard after the attack, Smith said.
