Porterville man dies in collision
The driver of a Jeep has died after being hit by a car that ran a stop sign at an intersection south of Woodville, the California Highway Patrol said.
The victim was identified by the Tulare County Coroner’s Office as Fred Guynes, 52, of Porterville.
About 5:15 a.m. Thursday, he was driving his 2008 Jeep east on Avenue 152 when a 1994 Toyota heading north on Road 168 failed to stop at the stop sign and broadsided the Jeep, the CHP said.
Miguel Gonzales of Terra Bella, the driver of the Toyota, had moderate injuries and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia.
Guynes was taken to Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville, where he died.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, and both parties were wearing seatbelts, the CHP said. The collision is under investigation, and charges could be filed.
