Two die near Terra Bella when car hits truck

Two Porterville residents died when their car hit a truck west of Terra Bella, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.

They were identified as Armando Bedolla, 21, and Maria Bedolla, 40, the Tulare County Coroner’s Office said.

Armando Bedolla, the driver of a 2008 Toyota, appears to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, based on evidence found at the scene, the CHP said.

About 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, the driver of a Freightliner truck from Delano was heading south on Road 192 and was north of Road 88 when he saw the Toyota heading toward him as it tried to pass other cars.

The driver put on the brakes and veered to the right, but the Toyota hit the truck, the CHP said.

The Bedollas died at the scene.

The collision is under investigation.
