Fresno police caught a man in a stolen car Sunday afternoon after he hit speeds reportedly topping 100 mph on a wild ride through the city.

Police described the pursuit and arrest of 36-year-old Omar Pacheco:

The California Highway Patrol asked for assistance after the stolen Honda Accord was spotted around noon in the area of Teague and Millbrook avenues. Fresno police who responded to the area attempted to make a traffic stop, but Pacheco sped off on Teague with a female passenger.

Because of Pacheco’s speed and erratic driving, Fresno police quickly gave way in hopes that Pacheco would slow down. Instead, the CHP helicopter tracking him clocked him at speeds over 100 mph as he continued to run red lights and stop signs.

Pacheco stopped the car at the Shields Avenue off-ramp of southbound Highway 41 and ran off. The woman stayed with the car; she was not arrested.

Pacheco was soon found by an officer with a police dog at an apartment building near Shields and Blackstone avenues.

He was booked into Fresno County Jail on felony charges including possession of a stolen car, reckless driving and an outstanding felony warrant for an unrelated charge of robbery.
