Federal court indicts man in Yosemite molestation of 11-year-old boy
An 18-year-old Southern California man was indicted in federal court Thursday for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old boy in a camp restroom in Yosemite National Park, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said that Marcus Anthony Maluhia Araiza Jr. of Rancho Cucamonga faces life in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
National park rangers responded to a 911 call in the early morning hours of Aug. 26. They learned that a man had grabbed the boy in a bathroom at Camp Curry. The boy was able to escape and notify his mother.
Fliers posted in Curry Village led to Araiza’s arrest later that morning, Wagner said.
