Boy dies in Hanford rollover, driver arrested after fleeing
A 13-year-boy was killed in a rollover car accident in Hanford early Thursday, and the driver who ran from the scene was arrested later in the day, the California Highway Patrol said.
The boy has been identified as Adam Aviles of Hanford, the Kings County Coroner’s Office said.
Jimmie Lee Love III, 20, faces charges of hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment and driving while unlicensed, the CHP said.
About 3:30 a.m., a speeding 2006 Toyota Camry heading north on 9 1/4 Avenue in the area of Van Court, north of Lacey Boulevard, hit a power pole and rolled over several times in a field.
The boy, who had been riding in the right rear seat, was taken by air to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Front-seat passenger Javier Hernandez, 20, was taken to Adventist Hospital in Hanford, and a 15-year-old boy was taken by air to Community Regional Medical Center.
The car may have been returning from a convenience store at 12th Avenue and Hanford-Armona Road, the CHP said.
Anyone with information should call the Hanford CHP at (559) 582-0231.
