Porterville man jailed for having marijuana grow

A man is in jail after police found a marijuana grow at his home while conducting an unrelated investigation Tuesday, the Porterville Police Department said.

Narcotics detectives were in the 1000 block of West Putnam Avenue when they discovered the grow at a nearby residence.

Ky Rouprasong, 56, of Porterville, was cultivating 224 mature marijuana plants, police say. He claimed he had a medical recommendation for them. Each plant was estimated to yield two pounds of processed marijuana.

Detectives say that Rouprasong’s average marijuana use was significantly less than what the plants would produce. Rouprasong told detectives he furnished the surplus to friends and family.

Rouprasong was booked into the Tulare County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Police destroyed the marijuana.
