Fresno man booked for carrying a loaded gun, police say

One man was arrested Friday in Fresno after police said he was found with a loaded gun during a traffic stop.

Police stopped Austin Flores, 21, around 6:30 p.m. for minor traffic violations in the area of Belmont Avenue and Fulton Street.

While speaking with Flores, police believed they saw narcotics paraphernalia inside the passenger compartment of the car.

Police said they asked Flores to exit the car and he immediately admitted to carrying a gun.

Flores was carrying a loaded 380-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his waistband, police said.

Flores was booked into the Fresno County Jail for multiple misdemeanor charges related to the loaded handgun, and additional felony charges for a home-made baton that he was also carrying in his vehicle, police said.

Flores admitted he was carrying the gun to defend himself, police said.
