Tuition scam targets Fresno State students

A phone scam that’s targeting Fresno State students is pressuring them to send money or risk being dropped from the university, Fresno State said Saturday.

Students receiving phone calls are being told they owe tuition, and if they don’t pay they’ll be disenrolled in their classes. The school sent out an email warning students and reminding them that tuition issues aren’t handled over the phone.

Fresno State said students who receive a phone call requesting tuition payments over the phone should not provide any personal information. All communications regarding tuition are sent through students’ college email address.

The Fresno State Police Department is asking anyone with information on the scam to call (559) 278-8400.
