Man arrested after stabbing in southeast Fresno
A 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after police reported he stabbed another man several times in southeast Fresno.
Sgt. Leslie Bragg said officers went to the 3700 block of East Alta Avenue, near Cedar and Ventura avenues, about 8:58 p.m. after a 14-year-old girl called police to report an assault. Officers found a 31-year-old man with cuts on his face and head.
The victim and witnesses said the victim befriended a woman he met at work. Bragg said the woman’s husband is in Mexico and the assailant, identified as Hediberto Ventura Cruz, warned the victim several times to stop talking to his cousin’s wife.
When the victim arrived at the Alta Avenue house, Cruz was waiting and punched and stabbed the victim with a pocket knife, Bragg said.
Officers found a green minivan Cruz was driving in the 3800 block of East Townsend Avenue and arrested Cruz, who was hiding in a bedroom. Cruz was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
