A second person is in custody in connection with a double slaying that took place in December in southeast Fresno, police reported Thursday.

Jorge Rodriguez, 19, was booked on two counts of murder in the slaying of Jose Duenas, 51, and Calvin Reese, 24, both of whom died after a shooting on Dec. 6 in the 4900 block of East Balch Avenue. Gustavo Duenas, 20, was arrested in December and booked in the deaths. Lt. Mark Salazar of the department’s Street Violence Section said that Rodriguez’s arrest was the result of a follow-up investigation by detectives working with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

The shooting occurred about 7:30 p.m. Police reported that Gustavo Duenas, a Bond Street gang member was involved in robberies with other gang members. Gustavo Duenas and a then-unidentified gang member that police say was Rodriguez attacked Reese, who was shot by one of the men. Police said Jose Duenas, who is the father of Gustavo Duenas was involved in the attack and was unintentionally hit by gunfire. Reese died an hour later and Jose Duenas died two days later at Community Regional Medical Center.

Police did not provide specific information about the arrest of Rodriguez.
