A convicted sex offender has been found guilty of forcible rape and faces a sentence of 75 years to life in prison, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
Carlos Estrella, 59, of Porterville, did not know the victim but followed her home last year from the transit center in Porterville, entered her bedroom through an unlocked door and threatened to kill her if she screamed.
He took her cell phone, held a screwdriver to her and raped her, the District Attorney’s Office said. He told her if he saw any funny business he’d return with a gun.
She called police and told dispatch “I just got followed and someone came into my apartment and raped me.” Police arrested Estrella the next day and found the cell phone in his pocket, a screwdriver and methamphetamine.
