A man who was targeted in a drive-by shooting Wednesday in southeast Fresno escaped serious injury or death when the bullet grazed the back of his head, police reported.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. in the 4800 block of East Lane Avenue, near Chestnut and Butler avenues. Lt. Jose Garza said the victim was crossing Lane when a vehicle with an unknown number of people aboard drove by and the shot was fired. Garza said police have investigated drug-related crimes at a nearby apartment, but do not know if the incident is related. Garza said the victim was “vague” in his description of the shooter’s vehicle.
