Police: 5 arrested for Visalia burglary

Five people were arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of burglary at Kaweah Growers Supply on Douglas Avenue and Ben Maddox Way in Visalia, police said.

Police said suspect Joseph Martinez, 22, broke into a vacant home in an attempt to escape from officers but was tracked down by a K-9 on Cain Street and Douglas Avenue.

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of burglary, assault and resisting arrest.

A few blocks away, officers arrested four other suspects, three of whom were 17, on suspicion of conspiracy and burglary.

Police said they found cash, a laptop computer and a video surveillance system, which was returned to the owner.

Police said suspect Yobany Cruz, 19, was identified as the suspect in an additional burglary on Acequia Avenue and Santa Fe Street in July. He was booked on an additional count of burglary.
