Fresno police have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with the torture and killing of a Fresno woman whose body was discovered in a canal May 10 — while investigators continue searching for a second victim who remains missing.
Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto in an update Monday announced the arrest of Boshay Ware in the death of 50-year-old Georgina McGhee.
Her body was found in a canal in the area of Nielsen and Hughes avenues.
“Initially, it was ruled a suspicious death because we didn’t know the exact nature of what she died from,” Casto said.
However, an autopsy determined McGhee died from blunt force trauma and that her injuries were not caused by being in the canal. Her death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
Detectives retraced McGhee’s final movements and interviewed friends and family members to identify who may have been responsible.
“(Detectives) determined that she had recently been involved in a dispute related to an RV trailer,” Casto said.
The investigation led detectives to a trailer registered to 55-year-old Jerome Saldivar.
When officers attempted to contact Saldivar, they learned he had also been missing since May 10.
Detectives determined that McGhee and Saldivar knew one another, and that both had been in contact with Ware on the day McGee was killed.
“They were all associates. They had a friendship on some level and had been spending time together earlier that day before Georgina was murdered,” Casto said.
As detectives continued their investigation, they interviewed Ware and gathered evidence allegedly linking him to the crime.
Casto said McGhee was likely killed near Yale and Blackstone avenues.
Investigators believe McGhee was severely beaten before her body was dumped into the canal. Authorities also uncovered evidence that Saldivar had been severely assaulted.
“Basically, that’s the evidence we’ve been able to establish through physical evidence and other means,” Casto said. “They were beaten, and at least Georgina was dumped in the canal.”
Ware was taken into custody May 28 and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of charges including murder and the torture of McGhee.
Detectives have continued executing search warrants and gathering additional evidence.
Casto said investigators have reason to believe Saldivar was also assaulted by Ware, but his whereabouts remain unknown.
“We know that he’s injured, he’s possibly deceased, or in need of help,” Casto said. “At this time, Jerome Saldivar is outstanding. We don’t know where he is, and we need the public’s help.”
Casto said they conducted an extensive search of the canal where McGhee’s body was found to see if Saldivar was there, even asking to lower the water level.
Saldivar is currently classified as a missing person.
Anyone with information about Saldivar’s whereabouts or information related to Ware and the crimes under investigation is asked to contact Fresno Police at 559-621-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
