Hit-and-run suspect arrested after returning to scene of crash, Fresno police say

Officers arrested a hit-and-run suspect who they say returned to the scene of the incident.

Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the matter unfolded around 8 p.m. on Monday.

The crash happened near Olive and Rowell avenues, leaving a victim in critical but stable condition, Trueba Vega said.

The suspect, Yzamar Mendez Cortez, is accused of fleeing the scene.

Trueba Vega said officers took her into custody after Mendez Cortez retuned to the scene during the investigation.

Authorities don’t suspect drugs or alcohol as being a factor in the crash.

Mendez Cortez was charged with felony hit-and-run and driving with a suspended driver’s license. She was released Tuesday afternoon on $15,000 bail, Fresno County Jail booking records show.

Police said a second, separate crash happened around the same area shortly afterward at Olive and Cedar avenues. The rider fell off his bike and had non-life-threatening injuries.
