A suspected DUI driver struck and killed a man riding a motorized bicycle in Fresno on Friday night, police said.
Fresno police Lt. Michael Pierce said officers responded to the crash around 10 p.m. , and found a white sedan pulled over on Millbrook Avenue, just south of Gettysburg Avenue.
Officers discovered a 39-year-old man trapped underneath the vehicle.
Fire crews and EMS personnel pulled the victim from beneath the car and attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pierce said investigators interviewed several witnesses who saw the crash and obtained surveillance video from nearby homes.
Police said the victim was riding in the bicycle lane at the time of the collision.
The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating what led up to the crash.
The driver remained at the scene, and she was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to police.
Millbrook Avenue from Norwich Avenue to Gettysburg Avenue is expected to remain closed for several hours while investigators process the scene.
“I can tell you that alcohol did play a part in this,” Pierce said. “I just urge the public to know that if you drink, please do not drive, because this can be the outcome — the death of somebody if you get behind the wheel.”
