A 42-year-old man was shot multiple times late Friday in Fresno.

Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to the 3300 block of East Harvey Avenue, near First Street and Belmont Avenue, where they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body while lying on a sidewalk, Fresno Police Lt. Michael Pierce said.

The man was taken to a local hospital and in stable condition.

Pierce said one of the bullets struck a gas line, prompting firefighters to shut off gas service to a nearby home.

Witnesses told officers that a disturbance involving several people had occurred in the street before the shooting.

According to witnesses, those involved were believed to be between 15 and 19 years old.

Police said a couple of people have been detained as detectives continue investigating the shooting.
