A 42-year-old man was stabbed during a robbery Friday night in Fresno.

Fresno Police Lt. Justin Hoagland said officers responded to a call just before midnight near the intersection of Shields and Valentine avenues.

The victim told police he was walking home in the area when two unknown men approached him on the sidewalk.

During the encounter, the suspects allegedly forcibly took the man’s personal belongings.

At some point in the altercation, one of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the thigh. The man then stopped resisting and fell to the ground, Hoagland said.

The two suspects took additional property and fled the scene on foot, heading northbound from the intersection.

Police described the suspects only as two men wearing dark clothing. No further descriptions have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

The victim was transported to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Officers canvassed the area for surveillance footage. Some items believed to belong to the victim were found at the scene, dropped during the struggle, Hoagland said.

Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area or has information about the incident to contact Fresno Police at 559-621-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
