Selma school worker arrested for possessing child sexual abuse material, deputies say
A Selma Unified School District maintenance worker has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material.
A spokesperson for the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said detectives arrested Troy DeCarlo, 24, of Fresno at the school district’s transportation yard Wednesday.
DeCarlo was arrested as part of a joint investigation by the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations. He was booked into Fresno County Jail on Wednesday afternoon, arrest records show.
Selma Unified spokesperson Jenna Perkovich said DeCarlo began working as a substitute maintenance worker for the district in December. Perkovich said the district conducted a background check as required and that DeCarlo had no prior arrests.
DeCarlo worked on an as-needed basis and was always paired with another maintenance worker, Perkovich said. Additionally, Perkovich said, maintenance workers don’t enter classrooms during instruction.
“The individual has been permanently removed from our substitute list and will not be eligible for any future employment with Selma Unified,” Perkovich said.
